isd info : mission statement

"…but of course we've gotta have a mission statement, all the blue chips have got one, it'll show we're serious and successful and articulate and things…"

So I looked up Mission Statement in the office dictionary.

It wasn't listed.

I then noticed that it was, in fact, the 1975 edition. This discovery explains why all business's established prior to 1975 have such a high failure rate and that global commerce, trapped within the boundaries of such a restrictive language like ours, has succeeded only by the virtue of luck! Clearly companies such as ICI, Telecom and Virgin can pin point their success to the day that the MD asked the apprentice to sum up the business in no more than ten words!

I found "Mission", it said "being sent on a service of a religious nature" or "calling in life" with a scattering of words like "duty" and "provide without pay" (now that, I can relate to!!)

"Statement" was obviously so insignificant in 1975, (what with everybody making their own, dressed in Bay City Roller tartan I suppose) that it was tucked in under "State" which mentioned "politically organised people", "rank", "pomp" and then eventually "Statement" which can be construed as "expression in words" Yes! Yes! Yes! Exactly what I'm looking for!

So here you are. You can either have the Concise Pocket Sized 1975 Dictionary version, which is as follows:-

We religiously believe that our calling in life has sent us to provide a service to organisations, regardless of political rank, to offer design solutions which, when described using the written word alone, looses all expression and pomp.

Or you can opt for the "…if you don't leave now you'll miss last orders…!" option which is:-

Mighty fine design, delivered on time, from folks in their prime! "…Mine's a G&T!"
